Feuding With the Dead/Martin Rosenfeld, JD

On March 21,2019 former Senator Joseph Lieberman wrote a piece for the Washington Post on a proper response to the President’s attacks on the late Senator John McCain. The op-ed was written by a friend, as a defense/tribute to the late Senator.

What did Senator McCain teach by example?
1. He was forgiving. He spent years in a brutal Vietnam prison but later, as Senator, fought for normalized relations with her.
2. He looked forward. Even after feuding with colleagues (which he did do) he forgot his annoyance and learned to form coalitions with them, when it was feasible.
3. He was solution-oriented. He disliked the Republican idea of scrapping Obamacare without having a proper alternative. “What have we to lose by trying to work together to find …solutions.”

Good traits for people in disputed matters to keep track of. Forgiveness, forward-looking posture, and inclusiveness. Mediate don’t litigate.
