A unique Court program is described at https://sc.courtinnovations.com/OHFCMC. Potential litigants in Columbus, Ohio are welcomed to a no-cost program that will guide them through a process that may lead to a resolution. The site offers the parties short videos describing mediation, and a “negotiation space”. This space is an “online space to negotiate a satisfactory resolution” of the dispute. The parties have sufficient information online to start their negotiation. If they feel they need the services of a mediator, the mediator may have an online presence, or a presence by telephone, etc. Since this service is free of cost and private, it is particularly inviting to parties who seek a solution to their dispute. This system handles a few hundred cases, primarily in the Small Claims Court.

There will always be a need for Courts and judges, but Ohio is leading the way in establishing ADR principles in an easy-to-use online platform. Mediation is always a good idea, whether through personal contact, telephonic communication, or online. The same maxim applies here as it always does; mediate (or negotiate)don’t litigate. Browse the website above as its video presentations make the mediation process very easy to understand and to engage.
