The Many Faces Of …/Martin Rosenfeld, JD

In the September 25, 2018 New York Times, Frank Bruni wrote about “The Many Faces of Brett Kavanaugh”. Was he a gentleman as some say, or a drunken predator, as others charge? Mr. Bruni’s tentative answer is that might it not be possible that he was both, but at different times or in different situations? Human are complex beings. They do not always act the same or even as we might expect? Might tis not be true of all of us. we are not consistently consistent.

In a divorce mediation, a souse might be seen as a villain or a heel. But could they not also be a devoted parent, child, or even, at times, a devoted spouse. We need to refuse to bow to the temptation to see he world as divided between heroes and villains. If we take the whole picture into account, we might be able to subdue some hasty judgments. Once we do this, getting to Win-Win becomes that much easier. Be realistic and be honest when trying to define another. This may well help you get to a fair and proper outcome. Mediate don’t litigate.
