James Baker, a Republican, and Andrew Young, a Democrat, together wrote an article for the Wall Street Journal on the issue of identity politics and how it has divided Americans.  This section stands out prominently for what it tells us about disputer resolution principles:

“Both of us have been at the center of heated disputes in this country and around the world. And there’s one thing we learned over the decades: You can achieve peace by talking, not yelling. The best way to resolved an argument is to find common ground.”

Two men with a century of experience in the public eye and it is a simple insight: you can achieve peace by talking, not yelling. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. told a commencement body at Oberlin College: Learn to live together as brothers and sisters or perish together as fools. The choice is ours.
