Doing the Right thing/Martin Rosenfeld, JD

The historic vote on the repeal of the Obamacare Program fell short by one vote. That vote is attributed to the surprise negative vote of Senator John McCain. Why did he decide to cast a negative vote? He explained that “It was the right thing to do.” There are times in life where our internal moral compass tells us that this is the best reason to act in a particular way.

Other decisions that may be decided by the right thing to do, might include the following:

*A decision to mediate and not litigate.

*A decision to have a real dialogue with our rival in a contested manner.

*A decision to  hear out the position of someone who does not agree with us.

*A decision to pursue Win-Win and not Win-Lose.

*A decision to be open-minded and flexible in a controverted matter.

*A decision to be prepared to fight for what we believe with respect and dignity.

Not sure what to do? Why not settle on doing the right thing? Mediate don’t litigate.
