An article appeared about mental health at https://themighty.com/2016/10/why-you-shouldnt-say-get-well-soon-to-a-chronically-ill-person/. The article cries out for sensitivity for those who are challenged by poor mental health. What one says and what one does not say is of great import. one suggestion is to say “I am sorry you are hurting.” The need for empathy is of great benefit for those who are going through difficult kinds.Even in disputes where there are two sides, empathy can be a healing balm. Not sure what to say to the other party who is hurting? Why not try “I am sorry you are hurting”? It can do much to bring the human element to difficult challenges. In this case, it is true that you can hardly do better to others than to “treat them as you wish to be treated by others”. Mediate don’t litigate surely encompasses the  prospect of the mepathy that allows you to feel the other party’s pain.
