An article about mediation in the Buffalo, NY area recently appeared at The thought that was expressed was that mediators often choices and not laws or mandates from “up high”. The gist of the article contains the truisms about the speed of mediated divorce and the lower cost. But note the emphasis on the fact that a trained mediator often options and possibilities to the clients. The ownership of the mediation is theirs; it does not belong to the attorneys. I, for one, value my autonomy and the right to choose. “Mediate don’t litigate” is more than just a short mantra. It is a way to put your imprint on a process as truamatic as divorce. It makes sense.
